JO CORTEZ

About The Author

I've embraced a life filled with rich experiences and passions, from early retirement from the Texas Department of Human Social Services to discovering joy as a Substitute Teacher, Paraprofessional, and P.E. aid coach at Adolphus Elementary with Lamar CISD.

My hobbies are gardening, photography, reading, writing, volunteering, part-time work, and, of course, enjoying good food. I majored in Criminal Justice and minored in Physical Education. I've navigated various life paths, finding true happiness in retirement.

My faith, nurtured by my mother, and my admiration for my father’s work ethic and love for travel have shaped me into who I am today. Having one best friend, five sisters, and a love for animals, especially my dog Princess Piper and my cat Pepper, highlights the close bonds I cherish.

I live in Houston, but Rosenberg will always be home, where I regularly attend Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. I prefer intimate gatherings over large crowds, embracing my introverted nature while seeking meaningful private conversations.

I Am Author and Writer

As far back as childhood, I had a passion for writing. There were two moments in elementary school when my teachers encouraged and complimented my writing. It meant so much to me because I never imagined I could write well; I only knew that I enjoyed it. My biggest obstacle was my dysgraphia. In high school, I took a typing class and learned that I did not have to form the letters by hand; I just had to remember their locations on the keyboard. It was the best thing ever. At some point, my dad got my sisters and me a typewriter. It felt like a toy that I could play with all day long. Nevertheless, I lacked the confidence to enroll in writing courses in college. Instead, I found enjoyment in writing for my own entertainment. Today, I hope it brings you joy as well. I have no regrets. God has blessed me with a good life. It’s not perfect, but it is special. I give Him all the glory.
